BETHESDA, Md. (March 28, 2011) – Suburban Hospital honored its first recipient of The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing. The honor was awarded to Assistant Nurse Manager of Oncology Jennifer Morfino, RN, OCN, at a breakfast honoring Certified Nurses at  Suburban Hospital on March 11.

Daisy, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, is an award given each year to a specific nurse who has shown exemplary commitment within the field. Recipients are chosen by their nurse administrators, peers, physicians, patients and families. Award winners received a certificate, proclaiming him or her an “Extraordinary Nurse,” a Daisy Award pin, and a unique hand-carved Shona stone sculpture, entitled “A Healers Touch.”

Suburban Hospital encourages its nurses to become Nationally Certified by providing them, at no cost,  with an online review program for emergency and critical care specialties, online continuing education units (CEUs) through the nursing center, and reimbursing nurses for successfully completing the board certification exam.
