Partners in the Promise

During 2012 and the first half of 2013, Suburban Hospital continued to benefit from an enduring commitment of philanthropy thanks in part to ongoing investment in clinical collaboration and quality, continued growth of personal and organizational relationships, and a steady building of momentum for the campus enhancement plans.

Recognizing that Suburban Hospital is well positioned to deliver on the promise to assure the most advanced medicine for the region, more than 2,300 generous donors joined Suburban Hospital to help lay the groundwork for future. Together, they committed just over
$6 million to strengthen and support the hospital's programs, services, and staff.

Highlights of the 18-month period included: a $2.5 million gift from the Bender Foundation that will serve as a leadership gift for the hospital’s upcoming campus enhancement project, as well as two $1 million gifts from the Shaw Family Foundation and Dr. Sikta Pradhan, respectively supporting pediatrics and neurosciences. This period also saw significant commitment toward nursing excellence with more than $500,000 of generosity from the Auxiliary, the Natelli and Salzberg families, and the Chairmen’s Celebration. Suburban Hospital also benefit from more than $50,000 in grants from TD Bank, Wolpoff and Phase Foundations to support patient care initiatives in oncology, cardiac and geriatrics.

Together, these and many other investments in advanced technology, program expansion, and clinical education initiatives help to assure the best possible health care for our community and beyond.

Each year, Suburban Hospital's special events engage hundreds of members of the community in support of key clinical service areas, such as cardiology and women’s oncology. In 2012, Suburban Hospital hosted Showcase 2012 – a spectacular evening featuring a hip nightclub environment, a spectacular flash mob/music video production, a live auction, and entertainment by The Fab Four – all for the benefit of the ground-breaking NIH Heart Center at Suburban Hospital. Lead sponsors Clark Construction Group, the Bender Foundation, Bethesda Emergency Associates, Rolyn Companies, and Miller & Long helped the event raise more than $360,000 for cardiac care services.
