During 2011, Suburban Hospital continued to benefit from an enduring commitment of philanthropy thanks in part to ongoing investment in collaboration, continued growth of personal and organizational relationships, and a steady building of momentum for the campus enhancement plans.
Despite challenges and uncertainty in healthcare policy and economics, as well as a period of internal transition during 2011, more than 2,300 generous donors joined Suburban Hospital to help lay the groundwork for the promise of the most advanced medicine in the region. Together, they committed nearly $3.8 million to strengthen and support the hospital's programs, services, and staff.
Together, these and many other investments in advanced technology, program expansion, and clinical education initiatives help to assure the best possible health care for our community and beyond.

Each year, Suburban Hospital's special events engage hundreds of members of the community in support of key clinical service areas, such as women's oncology. In 2011, Suburban Hospital and Saks Fifth Avenue Chevy Chase came together once again for a record-breaking Key to the Cure, which attracted nearly 700 guests, celebrated survivorship, and pushed total event contributions just over the $1M mark. Special thanks to lead sponsors: Washington Area Toyota Dealers, the Bender Foundation, Clark Construction Group, Jim Coleman Automotive, and Amanda & Curtis Polk.
Also in 2011, Suburban Hospital held its 25th Annual Chairmen's Celebration Dinner, where Northern Virginia residents Donald & Kim Orkand were honored with the Commitment to Excellence Award. This prestigious award recognizes local individuals who demonstrate ongoing dedication to improving quality of life within the Suburban Hospital community. Together, Dr. & Mrs. Orkand have been instrumental in advancing cardiac care by establishing the Orkand Center for Interventional Cardiology and the Orkand Innovation Fund for Research in Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Orkand's daughter Kaja accepted on their behalf.
