Patients & Visitors

Welcome to Suburban Hospital. We provide this information to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. We have several online opportunities to enhance your hospital experience. Please click on the blue box to your lower left to:

Family Presence and Visiting

Suburban Hospital supports patient- and family-centered care and recognizes that family members and loved ones are an important part of a patient’s care team and essential to patient health and well-being. The patient defines who is a “family/partner in care,” and the “family/partner in care” can be based on biological, legal or emotional relationships. The “family/partner in care,” as defined by the patient, is welcome 24 hours a day according to the patient’s wishes.

Visitors are guests of the patient or family and, in some cases, may be relatives. Visitors are encouraged to visit during the hospital visiting hours of 8 am to 9:30 pm. Children supervised by an adult are welcome to visit and are not restricted by age.

All partners in care and visitors must be free of communicable diseases, including colds and flu, and must respect the hospital’s infection control policies.

Patient and Family Advisory Council

Suburban Hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) brings together patient and family advisors and Suburban Hospital clinical, administrative and executive staff, including the chief operating officer, the chief nursing officer and the chair of the medical staff, who meet monthly to foster a culture of patient- and family-centered care. The PFAC is working with Suburban Hospital’s leadership to help transform Suburban to a model of care that engages patients and their families as equal partners in care, exchanging information with them in useful and understandable ways, and encouraging and supporting their involvement in health care.

Patient- and Family-Centered Care promotes patient and family partnerships in a variety of settings, including:

(1) At the bedside, as partners in care for themselves or their loved ones;
(2) In participation in hospital operations, such as participating in development of policies and procedures to support patient- and family-centered care; and
(3) In the community, such as helping to educate the community about patient- and family-centered care.

In addition to serving on the PFAC, Patient and Family Advisors work to enhance patient- and family-centered care by serving on hospital committees, councils and work groups; supporting staff and Suburban Hospital leadership in patient- and family-centered activities and initiatives; and acting as sounding boards for implementation of new programs and existing programs across the hospital.

You can read the Council's charter here.
