Bethesda, Md., (Nov 1, 2012) – Suburban Hospital in Bethesda was one of only four hospitals in the greater Washington, DC region to receive top ratings for inpatient care and simple and complex emergency care from Washington Consumers’ CHECKBOOK. The ratings were based on patient and physician feedback as well as clinical data including risk-adjusted mortality and how often the hospital followed evidence-based treatment criteria for specific clinical conditions.
The publication reported ratings of 30 hospitals in the region. In evaluating emergency departments, consumers were asked to rate attributes such as speed of service, pleasantness of staff, communication skills, and helpfulness in arranging follow-up care. Physicians ranked the hospitals on “desirability for treatment of major and minor injuries.” In these categories Suburban ranked significantly higher than any other Montgomery County hospital, with scores of 94 and 97 respectively.
Criteria for ranking inpatient care included the percentage of physicians who rated each hospital “very good or “excellent” for “surgery on an adult in cases where the risk of complications is high.”
Suburban Hospital is the designated Level II trauma center for Montgomery County.
