Bethesda, Md., (February 27, 2012) – The Suburban Hospital Breast Center has been granted a full three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.   Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. 

“We are very proud of this accreditation,” said Pamela Wright, M.D., breast surgeon and medical director of the Suburban Hospital Breast Center. “This is recognition that our Breast Center’s physicians and staff provide high-quality expert care for patients diagnosed with diseases of the breast.”

During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.  The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.  A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

The Suburban Hospital Breast Center program provides patients the ease and comfort of receiving their care in one location. “There are very few Breast Centers in the region that are as comprehensive and convenient for patients as our Breast Center,” said Rebecca Trupp, RN, nurse navigator for the Suburban Hospital Breast Center, who guides patients through their cancer diagnosis by coordinating services and providing education and resources.

Services at the Suburban Hospital Breast Center, located at 6420 Rockledge Drive in Bethesda, include imaging, outpatient surgical services, doctor’s offices and radiation oncology. Established in 1999, the Breast Center treats more than 300 breast cancer patients annually, more than any other hospital in Montgomery County.
